I know you have heard the word “shower” before, but have you ever thought of the way to make it superb and interesting? There are different kinds, size and features of a shower and its function is peculiar. A simple definition of shower is; a place (most times in a house) where a person bathes. A shower is for bathing under a warm or hot water. It could be found in most homes as it is essential to maintain cleanliness and good hygiene. Most showers have settings for temperature, water pressure and showerhead nozzle. But isn't a shower so much more than just hygiene? It's a place of relaxation, meditation and even a place to try out your dance moves or singing. So we come to the question how did the shower come to be?
The first forms of showers were as a result of natural formations; waterfalls. When a bather goes under the water (from waterfall), the water completely rinse the bather. This method of bathing is more efficient than that of the common traditional basin. This method of bathing was reproduced by Ancient people by pouring jugs of water over themselves after washing. There is evidence of early upper class people in Egypt and Mesopotamia that have indoor shower rooms and they were bathed by their servants in the privacy of their own homes. The ancient Greeks were the first people to have showers. They have sewage systems made of lead pipes; the pipes allowed water to be pumped both into and out of large communal shower rooms used by elites and other citizens. The ancient Romans also followed this convention; they had bathhouses that could be found all around the Mediterranean and as far out as modern-day England. The Romans had showers and believed in bathing regularly. The water and sewage systems developed by the Greeks and Romans broke down and fell out of use after the fall of the Roman Empire.
A lot of development was made to the ancient form of shower and mechanical forms of showers emerged. The invention of indoor plumbing around 1850allowed free-standing showers to be connected to a running water source to continuously supply a renewable flow of water.
Modern showers were installed in the barracks of the French army in the 1870s as a way to maintain a good hygiene. The French system of showers was adopted by other armies and they were also adopted by boarding schools, before being installed in public bathhouses.
In recent time showers has become so developed that it is one of the most important part of the house. Its design, appearance, and décor is now of personal interest. Everyone wants a shower that suits his or her taste. The question is; what do you have in your shower to maximize the fun?
