What I Wish I Knew Back Then About Smoking Cannabis
Decades of sessions, and a few things that took way too long to figure out.
Some of our customers have been at this a while. One told us he has been using bongs and pipes for 52 years. Another mentioned he is 73 and still figuring out what setup works best for him. Between all of it, there are a handful of things that would have made those years a lot more comfortable if anyone had bothered to say them out loud.
Here they are.
TIP 01
Coughing Was Never The Point
Somewhere along the way, coughing became proof that it worked. Big rip, big cough, everybody nods.
It was never true. Coughing is irritation. It is your throat and lungs reacting to heat, not a sign of "getting higher."
Once you know that, harsh stops feeling like a badge and starts feeling like a problem worth solving. One Freeze Pipe customer put it this way: that burn in your throat after a few hits does not have to happen. Another said he had given up smoking entirely because even an ice bong was too rough on his lungs.
They weren't doing it wrong. The equipment was.
TIP 02
A Slow Pull Beats A Fast One
This is the one nobody tells you, and it changes everything.
Ease up on the draw. Hard, fast pulls yank hot smoke straight through before anything has a chance to cool. Slow and steady gives it time in the chamber, which is where the cooling actually happens. Our customers land on this themselves. One wrote that it took him a while to realize he did not need to take hard hits, that slow and easy is best. Another put it simply: just shallow hits is all it takes.
Get off the lighter. You do not need to torch the whole bowl. Light the corner, pull the flame away, and let it ride. Holding the flame down the entire pull burns through your herb quicker and only adds more heat.
Between those two habits, most people fix half the harshness they have been blaming on their piece.

TIP 03
Ice Was Never Real Cooling
Here is the thing about ice. It melts. Within a few minutes you have watered down your pull, constricted airflow, and lost most of the cooling.
That is why we built around freezable glycerin instead. It goes in the freezer, it does not melt into your water, and it cools smoke by up to 300 degrees on the way through. One customer survey revealed that 90% say their Freeze Pipe piece is smoother than any other piece they've used before.
For decades, ice was the only option anyone had. Thankfully it's not anymore.

TIP 04
Cheap Glass Costs More
Nobody adds up what they have spent on pieces they don't use anymore.
Buying something built to last once is cheaper than replacing something disposable five times. It is also a better session every single time you pick it up, which is the part that actually matters when you use it every day.

TIP 05
Bigger Hits Don't Mean Better
Customers keep telling us the same thing: they are using less. One said the smoke is so much smoother he does not have to smoke as much. Another, a medical user, said his consumption has gone down since switching. A third put it best: more high for your buck.
None of them set out to cut back. A cold, smooth pull just goes further than a harsh one, so the big rip stops being necessary.
Less in the bowl, more out of the session.
TIP 06
It Was Never Worth Hiding
A lot of us spent decades keeping weed quiet.
Hiding it from family, worrying about work, being the punchline in every movie about it.
Most of that is over now. Cannabis is legal or decriminalized across most of the country, it is in retirement communities and medical centers, and it is sitting in the nightstand drawers of people who would have never admitted to it in 1985. One of our customers, 68 years old, uses his for pain control, relaxation, and getting his chores done.
The people who stuck with weed through all of that were right the whole time. The rest of the world just took a while to catch up.

The Short Version
Pull slower. Get off the lighter. Stop treating a cough like an achievement. Buy one good piece instead of five cheap ones. And do not waste any more years being quiet about it.
