How To Clean a Bong
Cleaning a glass bong will save you time and headache if it's done semi-frequently rather than solely relying on deep cleans when the piece becomes unbearable to look at.
That's probably a tough pill to swallow but it's the truth. Taking the 5 minutes to clean your bong every 2 weeks will change your life for the better juxtaposed to scrubbing and rinsing once every 2 months.
Read on for a guide on how to clean your bong!
What you will need:
Isopropyl alcohol and Coarse Sea Salt. You will mix these two together and pour inside the piece.
OR any store bought glass bong cleaning solution.
* Always do every step over a sink
* Changing your bong water every week mixed with cleaning at least every 2 weeks will prevent timely deep cleans and is an awesome habit to get into!
Cleaning Instructions
Step 1:
Empty out dirty bong water and remove moving parts such as downstems, bowls and percolators. Anything that normally comes off, does.
Step 2:
Rinse and wish warm water. This will remove the long hanging fruit so to speak. Any major chunks of weed and debris hopefully exit the piece or soften up for more rigorous cleaning steps that follow.
Step 3:
Soak all those small components of a bong that you removed with cleaning solution in a plastic bag or container. Ziplock bags work great and make sure to swish the solution around by tilting the bag back and forth. You can leave the pieces soaking in this bag for the rest of the process or longer if needed. Rinse thoroughly with warm water when done and let dry. For these smaller parts or in the downstem of your bong, these can be the hardest to get squeaky clean. Dabbing a Q-tip is isopropyl alcohol and wiping away build up is highly effective. You may have to do this even after soaking or thoroughly rinsing. But fear not as the Q-tip method works really well!
Step 4:
Pour the cleaning solution into the bong and plug any exit holes with your hands or fingers. There are also plugs and caps made specifically for plug bongs that help tremendously.
Step 5:
Shake, rotate and swirl the solution around the piece. The goal is to make sure the solution is running through the slits in the percolators and around any visibly dirty spots. Most people start by focusing on the base as this usually is the dirtiest part. Once that is done move to other areas.
Step 6:
Rinse and repeat as necessary. Assuming regular usage, cleaning your bong every 2 weeks will make your life so easy. Each clean will take approx 5 mins and there's fewer great feelings in life than sitting down and enjoying a freshly cleaned glass bong.
**For deeper cleans we recommend plugging your sink or bathtub and letting the bong soak fully submerged in hot water for anywhere between 30 minutes to a few hours and then proceed with the steps above.
ALWAYS make sure to rinse each part thoroughly with water when you're done and let dry.
