Ash Catchers: What are they and why do I need one?
Table of Contents:
If you’ve ever used a glass bong before, you know just how quickly resin, ash, and gunk can build up. It only takes a single bowl to dull the shine of a brand new piece. The gunk isn’t just unsightly, it can ruin the flavor of your smoke and your entire smoking experience. The solution to keeping your piece cleaner for longer is an Ash Catcher.
An ash catcher attaches to your piece where the bowl would normally go and provides a new location for your bowl. As the name suggests, it provides a chamber for ash to collect in to prevent it from collecting and building up in your main piece. Most are designed to be relatively small and easy to clean, making the entire cleaning experience easier for the user. Most ash catchers now include a perc for an added level of diffusion on top of your main piece.
Freeze Pipe Ash Catcher
Precoolers
Precooler is a different name for an ash catcher. Precoolers attach to your water pipe and add an extra layer of water filtration and smoothness to your smoking experience. Additionally, they help keep your glass cleaner for longer. By "catching" debris and resin before it enters the piece your ash catcher will be the one getting dirty instead of the bong. Rest assured cleaning a precooler is much easer and quicker than cleaning a big glass bong.
Easy To Clean
When it came time to release an ash catcher, we had to make sure that ours would solve all of the major issues that ash catchers can have. The first issue was how easy it is to clean. More complicated designs become more difficult to clean because multiple percs are added and it gets increasingly difficult to get cleaning solution in and out. We ensured that our design was easy to clean and had no restrictions on liquid cleaner and debris flowing in and out of the piece.
Recycler Ash Catchers Have Zero Drag
The next issue is that ash catchers add drag to your piece, making it more difficult and strenuous to take a hit. The vertical orientation of the showerhead perc in our design ensures that your lungs have to move as little water as possible. The number and size of the slits cut in the perc also help minimize drag as much as possible.
Water Levels
The final problem our design solves is water level disruption. In certain ash catcher designs, the perc can cause bubbles that overflow to the main piece. This means that water is moving from the ash catcher into the bong’s chambers and messing up the water levels in both parts. Usually, the user must dump both pieces out and start over again once the levels are significantly disrupted. Our design features an apparatus on the stem that allows water bubbling over the top to recycle back into the ash catcher and not into your bong, thereby solving the problem completely.
